Sony has just released the first trailer for its forthcoming sequel to Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. I loved the first film by Chris Miller and Phil Lord – which essentially ushered in the cartoony style of CG comedies that Genndy Tartakovsky (Hotel Transylvania) is clearly developing further at Sony.
The first Cloudy was one of those films that worked so well as a perfect whole, it didn’t really need a sequel. Cody Cameron (former story artist at Dreamworks) and Kris Pearn (head of story on the original Cloudy) are capably steering the new film towards its September 27th release date. I’m liking what I see. Check out the trailer here
And here’s the poster:

Neither did the book, but it happened.
I didn’t see the first film until the past year . . . and I was actually fairly disappointed with it. I’m not trying to crap all over it for those of it who liked it (and the fact that a lot liked it made me think I would), but it just seemed kinda . . . cliched, the whole movie. Most of it felt like what I had seen in a lot of animated movies.
Not sure what I think of the trailer. It had some cool stuff, but I kind of wish most animated movie trailers would stop all looking the same (I really like how the first Paranorman trailer did something different). I don’t know if the fact that it has different directors will put off people who like the first movie (I know they did 21 Jump Street recently-ish).
spoiler alert: a guy called Chester v is the villain
Ah yes, the post you famously said seemed “out of place.” on this site. And what ultimately helped led you to found Animation Scoop!
