Interestingly, Paramount Sales News<\/em> has been getting a bit behind on the latest Fleischer cartoons by not just months but years. Lost and Foundry<\/em> was arguably one of the bigger hits in the Popeye series, yet was it still over a year-and-a-half later?<\/p>\n

Since we’re at the death of the Betty Boop series, I might as well use this as an opportunity to come out as a Pudgy fan. It’s hard to stomach the prolonged decline of Betty, true. The highlighted Thrills and Chills<\/em> might as well be called Five Minutes of Rotoscope<\/em>. Yet I think, generally, those were some of the better attempts at charm to come out of the Fleischers during that awkward transitional phase.<\/p>\n

It’s of course easy to see anything as a letdown after the heights of I Heard<\/em> or Betty Boop’s Ker-Choo<\/em>, but there were certainly worse Boop cartoons than Not Now<\/em> or Riding the Rails<\/em>. Fearless Freddy was the bane of my existence going through VHS recordings of Cartoon Network’s Late Night Black and White<\/em>. (Uncle John Vincent says he’s slept through F.F. cartoons more than anybody, but I might have him beat.)<\/p>\n

We’ll be saying good-bye to Betty in this column permanently after next week. What are some of your favorite and least favorite Boops, and why?<\/p>\n
