Here’s a scan I’m not sure if we’ll be using, but I’ve always enjoyed the cartoon itself.
I’ve always loved the Van Beuren shorts and I have to wonder what working on these cartoons was actually like.
A notable thing about this cartoon is the director credit going to the team of George Stallings and Tish Tash. The latter is, of course, Frank Tashlin.
Scanned from a reversal print made from a rare Kodascope 16mm print from the 30s, just as it was becoming unprojectable.
Tom Stathes’ print is easily the best I’ve ever seen on this title. It’s 16mm but could fool you into thinking you’re looking at 35mm.
Van Beuren proves that if a cartoon is cute enough you can have drugs and death go unnoticed.
The early sound Aesop’s Fables are fascinating as they’re not yet committed to actually making well-synchronized sound cartoons.
There were still quite a few of the original titles that never showed up – and I honestly, at this point, expected them to *never* show up. At the last minute though, one still did!
One of the great finds this year was a series of original model sheets from the Rainbow Parade series – I thought it would be fun to share a bunch this week!
