Cartoons struggle against storms, this week including Fleischer’s Bimbo, Charles Mintz’s Toby the Pup, Ub Iwerks’ Flip the Frog, and Van Buren’s Tom and Jerry.

The Toby the Pup cartoons have been high on my list of wants ever since I saw an article by Jerry Beck in Movie Collector’s World (back in 1981!)
The buried history that cartoon music contains: vintage sheet music, rare original recordings, bizarre facts and weird old-time cliches. Lots of weird old-time cliches.
Since it’s the season, I’ve put together a ’Special’ (but really “unofficial”) Thunderbean set of Spooky Cartoons called “Halloween Rarities”. It’s a Blu-ray that includes Toby the Pup in Halloween.
This particular Cubby Bear title card was one of the things I most wanted and, happily, it showed up at long last!
While I know it’s not ‘quite’ Halloween yet, it does give me a good excuse to at least start putting up Halloween cartoon posts… and maybe I’ll do this all through the month.
