Something unusual this week. A batch of original Flip the Frog nitrate film elements arrived here from UCLA archives a handful of days ago, so I’ve shot a video of my evaluating some of them.
After working with 1920s and 30s materials for many weeks, sometimes it’s nice to take a little diversion and look at something else, so that’s exactly what is being presented today.
I was checking sequences from various silent films this morning, when Fedex showed up with a hard drive containing some films I’ve been waiting to see for years.
Here is a real rarity. Several sequences of the White Rabbit from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ animated by Lou Bunin and composited with a live action Perry Como.
Paul Terry is featured in this week’s film as a shining example of how the Social Security system is working. It’s quite a rarity in that I don’t think there are too many surviving prints.
Some thoughts at the end of a day, related to animation, preservation, creative endeavors and the small windows that are often the difference between something happening or not.
Since it’s a week of busy stuff here, a simple TB Thursday this time. I thought it would be fun to share some of the little films transferred for the upcoming “Yuletide Flickers” set.

I got an email from Jerry earlier today, asking if I’d be doing a third annual Thunderbean Thanksgiving. To be honest, I hadn’t given it a lot of thought until…
