Something unusual this week. A batch of original Flip the Frog nitrate film elements arrived here from UCLA archives a handful of days ago, so I’ve shot a video of my evaluating some of them.
Here’s a short run down on all the current projects I can legally announce… and there is a little news at the bottom of this post that many of you will be happy to hear.
As we were searching through the Flip the Frog materials, Dave Gerstein was kind enough to make a title card sheet showing the original title cards we have seen up to this point.
Wolfe’s animation on these low budget films is a lot of fun – and it’s also fun to see him using the bouncing ball device, having animated on the Fleischer bouncing ball films in the early 30s.
Lye’s Peanut Vendor short is unintentionally the stuff of nightmares, featuring a creepy Monkey made of pipe cleaners.
This particular Cubby Bear title card was one of the things I most wanted and, happily, it showed up at long last!
After working with 1920s and 30s materials for many weeks, sometimes it’s nice to take a little diversion and look at something else, so that’s exactly what is being presented today.
I was checking sequences from various silent films this morning, when Fedex showed up with a hard drive containing some films I’ve been waiting to see for years.
